Journey Planner
Google Journey Planner can be a handy assistant when planning your transportation around the Municipality of Tórshavn:
Tórshavn Municipality operates the red city buses called Bussleiðin. Five routes criss-cross each corner of the town. Four of the routes run every day of the week, at least once an hour.
All lines converge at Steinatún square and most also at Á Hálsi, which make for easy transfers.
As of 2019, the bus system is free-of-charge for both local citizens and visitors.
You can find the current timetables in the above section. Spacepermitting, bicycles can be brought onboard after 5 pm.
In addition to the city routes, Bussleiðin operates route 5 (weekdays-only) to both Kirkjubøur and Kaldbak, and route 6 (weekdays-only) to Kollafjørður. Most of the travels between Tórshavn and the villages require a transfer at some point.
Because route 5 is a long route with a complex timetable, the timetable is split in two sections: one to Kaldbak, the other to Kirkjubøur.
In the weekend (saturdays), route 7 links all these villages on a single route.
Like the city routes, the village routes are free-of-charge.
Strandfaraskip Landsins (SSL) operates the blue intercity buses called Bygdaleiðir. There are daily connections from Tórshavn to:
- The Airport and Sørvágur (route 300)
- Vestmanna (route 100)
- Eysturoy and Klaksvík (route 400)
- Sandoy (route 650)
These routes can also be used for local travel:
Within Tórshavn
The SSL stops are marked on the route map. Note that SSL does not stop at Hvítanes and Kaldbaksbotnur.
Route 650 stops at all stops between Steinatún and Gamlarætt. It continues as a non-stop service to Inni í Dal og Sandur. Does not stop at Velbastaður.
In and around Kollafjørður
Route 100 Departs like most services from Kollafjørður Effo, where it connects to route 300. The red city buses (Bussleiðin) does not stop at Effo (approximately 3 km walk westwards from the Tunnel stop in Kollafjørður or from the stop Inni í Firði in Kollafjørður).
Route 300 Stops at Kollafjørður Tunnel and Effo.
Route 400 Stops at Kollafjørður Tunnel, Inni í Firði in Kollafjørður, the Church in Kollafjørður (50 m from School, on the highway) and Norðuri í Sundum (200 m from Bussleiðin stop on the highway).
