The map below shows the location of the municipality and indicates useful transport links.

Transport links

Tórshavn has good road connections, excellent ferry and helicopter services and is only 40 minutes from Vágar airport by public transport or car.

A village road connects Tórshavn to the villages to the west, and an old village road and a highway connect Tórshavn to the villages to the north and to Vágar airport. A subsea tunnel also connects Tórshavn to the island Eysturoy to the east, and several ferries connect Tórshavn to the surrounding islands Hestur and Nólsoy, and to the islands to the south. The helicopter connects Tórshavn to the island Koltur.

Tórshavn has excellent local and regional bus services covering its residential areas and business parks.

The red local buses running throughout the entire municipality are free to use and offer an excellent way to explore the city and the municipality. The buses within the city run in continuous loops, and the buses to the neighbouring villages run intermittently.
