Cultural life
Tórshavn municipality has a lot to offer culturally. We have theatres, museums, venues, cafés and restaurants, cinemas, libraries, evening schools and much more. Below we have gathered relevant links to the different venues and places as well as to the sites dedicated to guide locals and visitors to the cultural scene.
Unbeknownst to many newcomers, a considerable part of the cultural activities takes place within the many leisure associations throughout the municipality. It can, however, be difficult to find information about the many different associations. Tórshavn Municipality has therefore recently begun collecting information about the different leisure associations and made it accessible to the public through a digital register called »Felagsskráin«. You can browse the register via the link below.
If you establish a leisure association yourself or know about associations not mentioned in the register, you may submit your association to the register via the link below.
Please note that the register is currently in Faroese only, so you may need some help from a local when retrieving or submitting the relevant information.
The event calendar tímin.fo aims to cover all cultural events in the municipality. From concerts, art exhibitions, performances, talks and debates to large events like ólavsøka (St. Olav's Wake) and Multicultural Week. The calendar is administered and updated by the Municipality. The majority of events are visible in the English version, but be sure to check the Faroese version too as some events may not have been translated into English.
If you organize an event yourself, feel free to submit your event to the calendar. It is free of charge and easy to use.
